PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Chief Credit Officer ensures lending policies and procedures best serve the bank and its customers. The Chief Credit Officer will be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing lending policies and products. They will manage the loan department while ensuring compliance with state and federal lending laws. The Chief Credit Officer will monitor and analyze economic conditions affecting the loan department and loan portfolio performance and recommend appropriate action.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) with 10+ years of lending experience; OR,
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Bank Management
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Set the loan department’s strategic plans to align with the bank’s business plan
- Establish and ensure the implementation of target goals for the department
- Direct the work of the loan department in all lending areas to include underwriting, loan documentation and approval or denial of all loans
- Oversee the entire loan portfolio, ensuring asset quality and consistent pricing
- Have current knowledge of changes in the industry and changing trends in lending and react to those changes in a way that maintains competitiveness in the bank’s loan products and services
- Ensure that loan policies, procedures, services, products, and documentation meet federal and state regulations and underwriting standards of the Board and Senior Loan Committee
- Monitor and review allowances for loan and lease loss analysis and make recommendations regarding provision expense and adequacy of the ALLL account
- Maintain a loan portfolio and/or pipeline of existing customers and maximize relationships based on the customer’s needs
- Maintain up to date knowledge of competitors’ rates, terms, products and other marketplace trends relating to lending
- Chair the Senior Loan Committee
- Coordinate and lead department meetings
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards
- Perform personnel actions including performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates for employment
- Provide leadership and actively participate in customer, community, and public relation activities to increase the bank’s visibility and to enhance new business opportunities
- Provide efficient and courteous service while cross-selling products and services to generate new business for the bank
- Comply with bank policies, operations, and security procedures
- Maintain customer confidence and protect the bank operations by keeping information confidential
- Perform other duties as reasonably assigned
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Responsible to the bank’s President/Chief Operating Officer for the successful performance of assigned responsibilities. Also has key relationships with the bank’s Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors.
- Seeks assistance and advice from other bank personnel as needed, to ensure the successful performance of assigned responsibilities.
METHODS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Through both oral and written reports to immediate and department supervisors.
