Credit Analyst (potential growth to Loan Officer)

 

PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE: The position is tasked with assisting the lending staff to help the Bank build and maintain a high-quality loan portfolio. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review open accounts for collection efforts and make decisions on pending orders, closing accounts and extending additional credit
  • Make outbound collection calls
  • Type and mail credit memos, vouchers, invoices, statements and collection letters
  • Review credit application
  • Conduct financial analysis, including 3rd party report review
  • Make recommendations to Credit Manager/Loan Officers
  • Maintain tax records and files
  • Perform financial analyses such as account, profitability and yield analyses
  • Make recommendations regarding credit analyses to loan officers and/or loan committee
  • Assist in the preparation of financial/credit information and reports for presentation to loan officers or committees
  • Analyze the financial statement; evaluate the information and prepare written reports for the lender
  • Advise loan officers about expiring lines of credit and assist in the renewal of the line
  • Risk rate select loans and maintains record on all risk rated loans
  • Assist with continuous review of all loans and commitments to identify potential credit problems
  • Work with loan officers in setting upcoming loan reviews and department manager in scheduling department-wide objectives
  • Review all credit presentations to loan committee to insure accuracy, completeness, and independence
  • Assist in final risk rating, structure, and credit assessment
  • Ensure efficient and accurate preparation of loan committee presentations, annual reviews and comments to files
  • Work with examiners during loan examinations
  • Assist external auditors and/or regulators with loan related audits
  • Work with Commercial and Consumer Bankers to resolve policy or compliance discrepancies that prevent loan documentation or booking
  • Ensure department processes are customer focused while managing bank risk
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Physical or remote attendance with the bank required during scheduled work hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows, Internet and pertinent software for the department
  • Technical abilities in account reconciliation, credit extensions and payment plans

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, contracts, credit and financial reports and legal documents
  • Ability to interpret regulations and reports
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in establishing and maintaining working relationships

  • Ability to deliver a high level of responsiveness to internal and external customers
  • High level of accuracy, focus and timeliness

 

Work Direction:  This position reports to the Chief Lending Officer.

Education & Experience

  • Relevant prior credit analysis experience
  • Basic accounting/math skills required
  • Bachelor’s Degree with focus on Business, Finance/Accounting, Math, or other applicable area of study
  • Knowledge of banking industry practices relative to bank loan operations with respect to loan products & services
  • Knowledge of bank loan origination system and core system
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to teach and be taught on the job, in group or 1 on 1 settings; as well as learning through classes and online webinars
  • Ability to work well with people, both internally and with external customers
  • Ability to handle a high volume of tasks, prioritize, and function effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong focus on teamwork
