Commercial Banking Officer

Summary

The Commercial Banking Officer is responsible for developing new business, underwriting, structuring, and the closing of commercial loans, as well as maintaining and servicing an existing portfolio.  Represents the bank in local community through active participation in community events and participates in marketing all the bank’s products and services.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor an existing commercial and commercial real estate loan portfolio to ensure proper risk ratings and early identification of potential problems.
  • Independently source, develop and underwrite commercial and new construction, interim, and permanent mortgage financing requests for new and existing customers.
  • Maximize bank profitability through appropriate pricing of new loan originations, fee income, and selling of all bank products and services.
  • Daily review, approval and disposition of commercial overdrafts.
  • Negotiate terms, structure loan financing based on risk considerations and present credits for approval to appropriate levels of authority with the bank as required.
  • Support the bank’s strong relationship banking culture through a consistent and on-going customer and prospect calling program, quality customer service, and superior product knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications:

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting or a related field. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of commercial lending experience.
  • Graduation from American Banker’s Association (ABA) Commercial Lending School or Advanced Banking School desired.
  • Experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis.
  • Knowledge of commercial, construction, real estate and consumer loan processing.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.
  • Technical skills in and personal computer operation; bank core processing system; word processing, spreadsheet and specialty software programs; ability to use mobile technology.
  • Ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to prospective customers and company principals, existing customers, banking officials and community leaders.

  • This position requires up to 10% travel, which may include flying and/or driving and some overnight stays.
